Notetaking on Camera Techniques

INTERVIEWING:
• What seven items should you bring with you when you are shooting an interview?
(Clocks Tick Tock Making Heads Pound Loudly)
Camera
Tripod
Tape
Microphone
Headphones
Power source
Lights

• Shooting into a light source = silhouette

Button to adjust =back light  button


• Where do you want your light source? behind the camera


• On what object should you focus the camera? the nose


• No tripod= shaky


• Date and Time= dont want date and time


• SP/EP standard play/extended play

• Camera shoots in SP ________________.

• Pre-Roll- 2-3 seconds before interview


• Post-Roll- 2-3 seconds after interview


CAMERA SHOTS:

***BACKGROUND: dynamic, has some depth not plain

• 1 Shot= middle of chest above the head

• 1 Shot with graphic=leave space outside the shoulder for graphic

• 2 Shot= same as 1 shot with more than 1 person

• CU- close up- shows detail

• MS- medium shot-

• LS-long shot- full body

• ECU- extreme close up

• Rule of thirds-Imaginary lines are drawn dividing the image into thirds both vertical and horizontal


CAMERA MOVEMENTS:
• Tilt- up and down


• Pan- left and ride


• Zoom- in and out


• Dolly- moving the camera on wheels

LIGHTS
• Key- brightest light from the side


• Fill- fills in shadows


• Back- separates the person from the background


MICROPHONES:
• Unidirectional- coming from one sound

• Omnidirectional- all directions

• Cardiod- direction heart shape around sound (unidirectional)

• Lav/Lapel Microphone- clips to the top of shirt

• Boom Microphone- one direction
